Outstanding modern Morocco guide.

The book provides a brief excellent summary of Moroccan history and how it came to be what it now is, and then offer very complete touristic guides of the major areas, cities of interest to visitors, transportation, and excellent maps and instructions of what to see, how to find it. It is not a listing of hotels, restaurants, rates, etc., but something to read each night before tomorrow's forays, and also worth carrying for guidance( especially maps and diagrams) in your daybag since it is a little large for the pocket. Its many excellent color photos give the reader a good idea of what the tourist site will be. It is not quite as detailed as the Michelin Green guides, but ther next best thing since there is NO Michelin Green guide in English for Morocco.

Successful guide to slimmer legs!

I purchased this a while ago now and have since had chance to put it to the test! I have to say I found this extremely useful and what's more it is succinct, well written and without waffle. Too often these types of books are hard going and just don't get to the point quick enough. What's more this book really brings together the benefits of exercises and nutritional information which I think has really helped - and it's great to have all this info in one book. For anyone that is serious about getting slimmer legs this book is perfectly focussed. With cardio effort at the gym and this book, in 12 weeks I've gone from a size 12 to an 8, so I think the results speak for themselves.

A Great Plan For Great Legs!

As a yoga instructor, I often get asked by my students how they can tone and slim their legs. It is not an easy question to answer as so many women have different issues they want to fix and are struggling to combat other factors such as genes, weight loss, and age. This book answers the age-old question of how to thin legs by covering the basics such as cardiovascular exercise and diet and also by providing you with specific exercises that target every muscle in the leg necessary for sculpting, toning, and ultimately thinning.

This book is a great reference to have for any woman wanting to improve the appearance of their legs. Even if you haven't had success in the past, the tips provided by the author are sure to help you get the results you want so you can flaunt your gams without thinking twice.

Page-turner sequel! Loved It!
By history repeats
I absolutely loved Eden and Hunted did not disappoint. This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Ms. Wise writes with the kind of plot suspense and atmospheric danger that you are never sure if she is going to kill off a major character, including the hero or the heroine. There is so much fast-paced action in the second half of the book that I felt a little worn out when I finished it.

The natives take a major role in this sequel, and it takes a talented writer to imbue semi-verbal creatures with so much characterization that they feel like friends and enemies. Plus, we finally learn a lot more about Fly's fascinating backstory. As in Eden, Ms. Wise has very rich descriptions of the landscape, making it a character in this book, too. Fly and Jenny are basically explorers and settlers, and their new world plays an appropriately sinister and threatening role.

This book was great from beginning to end, and a perfect conclusion to the Eden story. I liked Fly and Jenny so much that I will miss them. They were great characters who solidified their roles as a couple in the first half and then were tested and challenged on so many fronts as individuals in the second half that Ms. Wise left you prepared for their possible demise. It was a breathtaking adventure!

A great sequel.

LOVE this story. This book is the long awaited sequel to her book Eden, and it is wonderful. This book can be read alone I think, but it would be so much more satisfying to read the other first. This book picks up and we read about the native life on the planet and their interaction with them.
We also learn about Fly's background and more about his species.
It is a great story.

Great conculsion to a wonderful story

A great ending to a pair of book with really great writing and really unique characters. I am kind of sad to see this series end. Their are so may different avenues that the author could probably take but it wouldn't be the same. I congratulate the author om some really fun adventures in this book. Fun for me not so much for the characters. Enjoy/

Like The Oatmeal, but for Theology Nerds.

In his first collection of comics from his website, Adam4d chose an eclectic collection of his work. Some of it is clearly earlier – the art is less detailed, and tends to be more issue based – while some looks and works like some of his more recent work – having more detailed characters acting out quotes from historical figures, pastors and authors or providing more in-depth commentary on Christian issues. While the art style varies, the theme is the same: modern Christianity is under the microscope. But it never comes across as intending to harm.

Some use satire simply as an attack, while others make a point. (Think political cartoons). Adam4d’s work is primarily a way of teaching. Even those who may feel attacked have to admit that it wasn’t the artist who did the attacking; it is the Word, quoted faithfully in context, or quotes from theological and intellectual greats from history that convicts.

If there was a letdown it was in how short the book was. I understand that with full color it would have to be shorter to be affordable, but, like many fans of his webcomic, I have my favorites that I’d have liked to see included. Some of his newer stuff is really top notch as well. But that’s what the second collection if for, right?

With religious work there can be – rightly so – concerns about orthodox views. Nothing I’ve read so far would not be considered orthodox. While I don’t know the author, his work strikes me as tending to Reformed, if any single set of doctrinal beliefs, without any controversial or secondary issues to cause readers of different backgrounds to stumble. If you are an orthodox Christian you will find a lot to agree with here. Beware, though, should you hold to unorthodox beliefs as they will come under the scrutiny of the Word.

I haven’t had as much fun reading about theologians, laughing at (and being rebuked for) so-called Christian behavior, or learning complex theological arguments in clear, deep ways since I read Jon Acuff’s Stuff Christians Like a few years back. Cons:
My coffee table has what appears to be a coffee stain that has grown overnight. Strangely enough it's the precise size of this book. I have determined that while my coffee table is ruined, God in His providence has ordained this book to forever remain front and center in my living room, covering said stain. I believe this will be a sermon illustration someday.

Absolutely wonderful!: A humorous, relevant, concise, and insightful collection which testifies compellingly of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the necessity of sound doctrine. I'd "drop" a copy everywhere I go, if it were financially feasible to do so: For now, just the one, though.

A meditation on Styron's ( Sophie's Choice ) serious depression at the age of 60, this essay evokes with detachment and dignity the months-long turmoil whose symptoms included the novelist's "dank joylessness," insomnia, physical aversion to alcohol (previously "an invaluable senior partner of my intellect") and his persistent "fantasies of self-destruction" leading to psychiatric treatment and hospitalization. The book's virtues--considerable--are twofold. First, it is a pitiless and chastened record of a nearly fatal human trial far commoner than assumed--and then a literary discourse on the ways and means of our cultural discontents, observed in the figures of poet Randall Jarrell, activist Abbie Hoffman, writer Albert Camus and others. Nearly 40 years ago, Styron published his first novel, Lie Down in Darkness , which revolved around the suicide of a young woman, Peyton Loftis. Now, he tells the short but very moving story of the deep depression which nearly overcame him in the summer of 1984. A successful middle-aged writer at the peak of his powers and acclaim, Styron was--seemingly inexplicably--struck by insomnia and a growing sense of malaise leading to hopelessness. He consulted a psychiatrist and was given high doses of the controversial drug Halcion for his insomnia, but his despair continued to increase until one evening he actually attempted suicide, only to be rescued by the playing of Brahms's Alto Rhapsody in a video he was watching. He immediately had himself hospitalized, and after several weeks in the security and healing atmosphere of the hospital began to feel himself again. Expanded from a 1989 Vanity Fair article, this book is highly recommended. Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 5/1/90.

A compelling story of depression and recovery

"Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness" is an autobiographical work in which distinguished novelist William Styron recalls his battle with clinical depression. A lean 84 pages, this is a straightforward and eloquent book.
In an author's note, Styron explains that this book started out as a lecture given at a symposium sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The lecture was developed into a "Vanity Fair" essay before ultimately becoming this book.
Styron describes depression as "an insidious meltdown" of the mind, a "tempest in my brain." He reflects on the depression and suicide of other individuals whose lives had touched his. He describes in detail his own struggle with suicidal thoughts. Also covered are the medications he took, as well as his hospitalization and therapy.
Styron's book is both a fine piece of literature and a very informative window into a particular mental illness. Styron has been in the pit of despair, but has survived; I commend him for his courage and candor in sharing his experience in "Darkness Visible." Recommended companion text: Audre Lorde's "The Cancer Journals," about a poet's battle with breast cancer.

A useful intro

Disappointingly short. Basically a magazine article with a chapter added on. Very good about the sheer pain of depression and its effect on the ability to act, think, taste, feel pleasure of any kind. Surprisingly uninformative about what depression does to your thought processes -- you would think that, as a writer, the author would say more about that. Or maybe his experience was just different. For example, I found depression like trying to debate with the Devil: one reason that you don't feel you'd cause your loved ones pain if you killed yourself is that you've become convinced, in your convoluted reasoning, that they would be happier. That's on top of the sheer pain you're enduring, and it saps your ability to suffer for others' sake. The same is true about the fact that it is an episodic disease and will eventually abate (I've been free of it, basically, for 25 years, knock on wood). Your perceptions have been altered so that you see with absolute clarity that, as the sky is blue, the pain will never end. I'd read this for the gut punch, then "The Noonday Demon," by Andrew Solomon, for a real exploration of the subject.

Fascinating & Honest

An amazing work, from a writer who obviously suffered the tortures of the damned while he was depressed. Reading what William Styron went through was actually heartbreaking. He did not understand it himself, as so many others who have this condition also don't understand WHY it is happening to them. What I loved about this work was that for those who DO want to understand, it is a must-read. Painful in parts, but also honest and straight-forward. Some of the details about those AROUND Styron who did not "get" what was going on brought me to tears. This book is just more proof that so many do not understand depression, or how horrible its effects can be on any given human being. High recommend it.

choice and conflict

This is a nice, short book that anybody could read and get something useful out of. To help potential readers, I will clarify a little about the book. In many ways, it is not a book about decision making per se, but rather ethics and decision making. As such the title doesn't quite fit: perhaps it should be called how good people -should- make tough choices. Given that the emphasis of the book was somewhat different than expected, Kidder made a decent book out of the general topic of ethics. Not arcane in any way, chock full of examples and designed to be user-friendly. A great book for "lay persons" who are nonetheless quite familiar with decisions that have ethical implications and need to make them on a regular basis.

Beautifully written, easy to understand ideas

This book has provided me with a structure through which I can begin to think more openly about ethics. It has surprised me with a number of new ideas, most of which are relevant to all of us. I highly recommend this work to those who care about living a thoughtful life. Ethics this way is not stodgy and limiting, but expansive and exciting.
