This book an okay guide to intimate physical relations for those about to marry or are newly weds. It's teachings are very secular with some Christian verses sprinkled in. The author is clearly more comfortable with his psychological training than his faith and not a very good exegete.
Examples: The author presents a very incomplete discussion of birth control. He claims the Scriptures are silent on the matter and so it is up to the couple to decide. 1) Scripture is not silent on the subject, for those who study it. 2) He fails to make clear that certain types of birth control, such as the Pill and IUDs, as well as others, cause abortions - very much a biblical issue.
The author sees great value is going to sex therapists and marriage counselors - not to Scripture first.
Too little attention is given to some subjects. They may have be touched upon, but they are too essential to give such limited attention to. These might include:
* Trust
* Obligation (1 Corinthians 7), Saying 'No' (p. 82-83)
* Requesting to defer to another time
* Mutual Ownership (Song 6:3, 8:12)
* Pregnancy (Not as something to be avoided, plenty of emphasis on that, but on it's blessing and that it is to be desired), briefly dismisses Genesis 1:28 and 9:1
* Attitude
* Making Communication SAFE
* Assumptions.
* Respect
On the positive side, the section to women "Turning Yourself On" (p. 105ff) is a good start. The 'technique' sections are decent.
Better books might be:

Must have for newlyweds!

This is one of the books my husband and I read the months/weeks before we were married. It was also the book we went to in the first days of our marriage for reference... as we were both learning about this part of marital intimacy first hand. In our opinion, the book is the perfect gift for newlyweds. Perfect in size (not too large or too small), presenting answers to most if not all of the questions newlyweds will have pertaining to sex. Is not too graphic but graphic enough (shows some positions). My husband and I found this books so very useful and ended up giving our copy to some newlywed friends. Now we're looking to give away some more!
